However, most cells of the body are not able to absorb and use this sugar without a certain signal: they need the hormone insulin. After eating a meal rich in carbohydrates, the pancreas secretes insulin, which subsequently binds to specific receptors on the surface of target cells. As a result, there is an intracellular release of secondary messengers, the so-called inositols, which contribute to the absorption of glucose from the blood. In the ovaries, insulin has another additional effect: it stimulates the synthesis of androgen, which explains the close relationship between blood sugar, insulin and PCOS. Thus, hyperinsulinemia leads to hyperandrogenism (an increase in the HOMA index) in women and anovulatory infertility in PCOS.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the 20th century. scientists have confirmed for the first time the frequent weakening of signal transduction in insulin receptors in PCOS, which was later called \u201cinsulin resistance\u201d. To compensate for this condition, the body produces excess insulin (compensatory hyperinsulinemia), while simultaneously stimulating increased production of male hormones (hyperandrogenism).<\/p>\n<p>To avoid an increase in blood sugar levels, women with PCOS are advised to follow a healthy lifestyle and diet to avoid an increase in blood sugar levels.
